This is the recommended release for end users. The release notes will show the latest changes.

Extra programs
GNU Solfege can make use of some external programs for special features. These programs are not required for most of the exercises, but some people will probably want to install them.
These programs are usually included on your GNU/Linux distribution. On debian or Ubuntu, just open a terminal and type
sudo apt-get install timidity mma csound lilypond
to install all these programs.
Installing timidity on MS Windows
Download TiMidity++-2.13.2-cvs20100919.win32.zip and unpack it to C:\. After unpacking, you should find the following file: C:\TiMidity++\timidity.exe. If not found, you have done something wrong.
Create the C:\TiMidity++\soundfonts\ folder. Follow the instructions here to download 8MBGMSFX.SF2 and place it in C:\TiMidity++\soundfonts\
Create the file C:\TiMidity++\timidity.cfg with the following content:
dir "C:\TiMidity++\soundfonts" soundfont "8MBGMSFX.SF2
Then start Solfege, open the preferences window for GNU Solfege and enter C:\TiMidity++\timidity.exe as the path to the MIDI player program. Adjust the path if you install timidity elsewhere.
Installing MMA on MS Windows
Download and install WinMMA 1.1. Enter C:\MMA\mma.py as the path to MMA in the GNU Solfege preferences window.
Installing CSound on MS Windows
Download CSound from sourceforge.net. Most versjons should work. I have tested 5.09 and 5.10. You will probably have to install Python 2.5 from http://www.python.org/2.5.4 to get rid of the error message about python25.dll not being found.
GNU Lilypond
Download 2.10 from http://lilypond.org/web/install/

Hej Guys,
I just downloaded solfege a few weeks ago and it is an awesome programme. Many thanks for that!!
Could you also create an app for the android market? That would be Fantastic.
Either way, great programme, helps me a lot. thank you.
sincerely
.Matt.
Hi and thanks for such an interesting tool! But.... after install and try to run the program I get the following error "python.exe-Entry Point Not Found" "The procedure entry point deflateSetHeader could not be located etc."
I´m using ms XP pro and used the windows installer package version win-32 3.20 download. Extremely grateful for any help, Clement
Hi,
I just tried to install and run MMA. No way. I'm on Win 7. Could you help me ? Thanks a lot.
Grymt program! Tack så mycket ;) Det här måste va det enda riktigt bra grattis-programmet för ackordgångar.
Use the application on PC. Thank you very much!
Would be great to have it on android too.
First of all, I would like to thank all the people who developed this program. It really rocks!
And secondly I would like to say that, if anybody have problems installing timidity and mma for playing all exercises, here is a tutorial on how I did it.
For installing MMA:
Click the link http://winmma.sourceforge.net/ under the headline "Installing MMA on MS Windows". Then choose to install version MMA 1.1. Then just copy the path in GNU Solfege. Follow the instructions given under the headline "Installing MMA on MS Windows" for doing that. Then, it should work (I have Windows 7, but it should work for any Windows version).
For Timidity:
Don't use the link on this page to download Timidity, because the download link on that page is broke. Instead copy this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HougkOFkhE in your browser and follow this tutorial on installing it(if the link doesn't work, just search "installing timidity" on Youtube and you will find the video by "56greydog". He guides you through the installation as simple as possible. When you come to the end of his video, he says that you have to restart Timidity after you've added the 8MBGMSFX.cfg to the "config file" box. What I found at, was that you may have to restart it several times for it to work. Then just follow the instructions on the "http://www.solfege.org/download/ site to copy the path into "GNU Solfege".
Note: It is VERY important that you add the right path in the GNU Solfege program.
Hope this helps. I wish you all good luck! ^-^
Also I forgot to mention that you may have to drag a downloaded midi file first to make timidity work. It worked for me any way. Here is a link to som Billy Joel midi files :)

Excellent :)
Thanks for this great programm. It is my best friend for my study for C-exams Music. Is there maybe already an android app. I'd like it on my tablet.
Should be great.
Many thanks.
Agreed. An android version would be great. Of course, we users could program it ourselves time and knowledge permitted.
Hiya, your program is great, the best I have found so far. Is it possible to get a android version of it?
Thanks for this wonderful program.
I don't know much at all about computing but could follow the installation instructions for MMA and timidity to Windows. However timidity didn't make a sound until I changed the content of the cfg file by adding " after the .SF2 command. Either that or I was just lucky.
As a professional musician and teacher, I fully understand and appreciate how essential aural training is to anyone studying musicianship, music theory and harmony. GNU Solfege does it all....cracking programme and equally effective as Auralia.
Thank you so much.
Paul.
I love and I hate this program. It's very useful but it is soooo random. Why can't we setup ALL the exercise to our liking? Why do you even make exercise. For exemple I should be able to chose whatever chord I would like to learn in a list and the program should just play them. Instead I have to choose a pre-made exercise and hope it fits my need. WHY!!?!??!
would like to try this program but looks daunting to download and maintain. maybe i'll try later
